Sweet Ole' Dolly
It was truly a beautiful day even if the air was rather sticky. It was humid no doubt and any could tell that there was a high chance of a thunderstorm in the evening. Though the wind that whipped through the old meadow kept her cool it was even a much bigger help since she had a thin coat even if her coat was dark. Her brown eyes were closed briefly, nose to the wind taking in the scents it carried. Behind her, her long tail gently wagged as she took in both familiar and unfamiliar scents. Smiling the female opened her eyes looking around the tall grass trying to determine where she was going to go today. She was thinking of venturing a bit further today heading into the woods that separated this isolated territory from the city. She had traveled to that line of trees before, but never into that forest because she was warned that there was dangers at the end of the forest, that she should never go that far. The wind had carried a sweet unknown scent from that direction and the good nosed hound wanted to find out what it was. Though she was hesitant with her mother's warnings ringing through her mind. Looking back towards the barn she thought it over. It couldn't be that bad, she was grown now and knew danger, knew what to stay away from. Huffing she looked back to the trees before springing off of her back legs. Her lean, agile form went running through the grass, large ears flopping up and down with her movements, choker chain making a rhythmic tune. With ease the agile hound made it to the end of the meadow crawling under the barbed wire to the other side. Once she was free from the wire she began to run once more, long strides carrying her quickly across the small bubbling creek and to the edge of the forest, there she stopped.
Drawing a deep breath in the female slowed her fast heart rate, calming her body so she could continue through the forest, alert and ready to steer clear of danger. This took a bit of time and drawing deep breaths into the deep chest of hers. Once calmer she shook herself before lowering her head to the ground and stalking into the forest with her nose to the ground and her ears up. Scents flooded her nose, the familiar prey scents that she liked to chase back at the barn, and even the rare smell of deer was vary powerful here. Her mind was buzzing with thoughts, excited at the fact she had found more deer scent that she could relay to the family tonight. Her family was expanding to the strays and were slowly growing. The need for bigger prey was getting to be more of a necessity. Her heart rate was slowly rising again, this time with excitement. By now her tail was swinging back and forth with her hips. Her mind was solely concentrated on the fact that all these strong fresh trails were flooding her nose. This was a mistake on her part, focusing on her hunting instinct left her pretty oblivious to what was around her unaware of the fact she may be walking into danger that her mother spoke of, but that wasn't present in her mind to remind her. Instead the thought of picking a trail to fallow was all she could think about. Circling and pacing with her nose to the ground taking in all the different trails and trying to pick which she wanted to fallow. Prancing the female picked the most unfamiliar and began to jog along with it. Her nose remained to the ground and her lean agile form carried quietly over the grass. Eyes picking up brush and sticks that she easily dodged in order to remain quiet and to not scare whatever this trail lead to.
The trail grew hotter while her heart steadily began to race. The excitement was almost to overwhelming, but the years of training and the strong blood that ran through her form, kept her quiet and focused, aiming to get close to the owner of this scent. The hotter it got the more she slowed down and kept quiet, trying to keep her chain from making any sorts of noise. Then her eyes caught the medium sized black form and she froze. She had never seen this type of creature before, munching on berries on a bush. She stood still her eyes studying it as her adrenaline began to flow through her veins. The form was bigger then her, all black with almost no tail. Some tan on it's muzzle. It looked like prey to her. Sneaking closer the female kept her eye on the creature getting the distance she wanted to be. She wasn't hungry, she just wanted the chase. Suddenly a loud booming bay erupted from her vocals like a bullet from a gun. The creature jumped, and made some loud noise before running. Hot on it's heels was the female hound, baying constantly as she ran. Lucky for her this bear was young and not aggressive or else it could have attacked instead of ran. The deep huffs from the bear as it ran only made the hound more persistent, though she left enough distance. It wasn't that fast of a creature, not like she was used to. The next big tree the creature saw it lunged up it's trunk, large black claws digging into the bark as it climbed growling at Dolly as she took station at the base of the tree, still baying at it.
She continued until she grew bored, though proud of another successful treeing. Dropping down from the trunk she pranced away headed off in a different direction, pretty pleased with herself for the time being. After a few minutes her nose drifted back to the earth as she searched for another to chase.
