♥ Chocolat -
Poor Chocolat was well out of her comfort zone.
With as many changes as her life had been taking lately, finding herself such was not unusual. However, the gnawing hunger she felt at her belly was something that she didn't have a point of reference for, and something that she found seriously unpleasant. What was more unpleasant was that she didn't entirely know how to get home, and when she had left her bowl was empty.
Her humans had been leaving for longer and longer lately, and home was so dull that she had wriggled herself free of the fence that kept her to the back yard, and had gone in search of what Fate could offer her. She was absolutely certain that she could get home if she really really wanted to-- but there was no food there, and no company there, and it just made her feel totally lonely and hopeless. No, going home would never do-- so Chocolat did what dogs had done for centuries, and had left the issue of finding food up to her nose.
Certainly, there were food smells around. In fact, they were everywhere, in with the myriad of other city-smells that she usually only got to sample while on the end of a leash, in the comfortable protective sphere of her humans' company. That olfactory cacophony was usually quite fascinating, but now it was also overwhelming: she was free to investigate any smell she wanted, and the choices were intimidating. Particularly the food-smell choices: she didn't recognize any of them, though they were closer to the things her humans ate then the things she ate.
Her nose eventually led her down an alley-way, but she stood at the entrance looking uncertain: this was the source of all those mysterious food-smells, but there were dog-smells here too. Stranger-dog smells.
Eventually hunger would win and propel her forward, but in the meantime, standing where she was in perpetual indecision sounded like a good plan.
